The 23-year-old physiotherapy student was gang-raped in a moving bus on December 16, 2012. She was also savagely tortured with an iron rod and then dumped on the road. Her friend was beaten up badly.
Doctors term victim’s condition was critical.
The government decides to take the victim to Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital following a cardiac arrest.
29th Dec 2012– The Victim succumbs to injuries and other medical conditions at 2:15 am. Police add murder charge in the FIR.
The shocking incident paved the way for nation-wide protests, calling for stricter norms against rape and speedy disposal of such cases. Despite best efforts to revive her, Nirbhaya (the name given to the victim by media) passed away on December 29, 2012.
Overall, five men including Ram Singh, Akshay Kumar Singh, Vinay Sharma, Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta and a juvenile were identified as accuse.
On Jan 3rd, 2013 The Police files charge sheet against five adult accused of offences including murder, gangrape, attempt to murder, kidnapping, unnatural offences and dacoity etc.
